One of our favorite pastimes when marooned indoors is reading travelogues. This is one area where the Internet excels because the Disinformation Superhighway makes it easy to share outdoor adventures in near-realtime.
We stumbled across a new travelogue that it is a must-read for anyone who still harbors the Huck Finn fantasy of traveling long distances in small boats on the mighty Mississippi river. The entire staff of WildIndiana.com falls firmly into this category.
Writer Dave Krantz has undertaken a somewhat gonzo journey to travel the length of the river from Minneapolis to New Orleans in a 16-foot open fishing boat. Even more intriguing is the fact that Dave is a young 70-years-old. On top of all that, he’s actually going to travel down the Mississippi, then to the Tenn-Tom waterway, through the Intercoastal Waterway and finally up the Apalachicola river to his final destination and home at Albany, Georgia.
At this writing, the daily blog has stopped near Apalachicola but we anxiously await the next chapter in the saga.
