BASS and ESPN part ways
In a shock to virtually no one, sports network ESPN has agreed to sell the assets of BASS LLC to a group of investors including well-known television angler Jerry McKinnis.
The sale will include all assets of the largest bass anglers group in the world. ESPN bought the group in 2001 and turned it into a hot television property, featuring shows such as Bass Master Classic. The BASS television shows will supposedly continue on the network.
This move, on the heels of a decision earlier this year to discontinue other outdoor programming on ESPN, continues the trend by major “mainstream” media conglomerates to dump outdoor programming and journalists. As demand for outdoors-oriented content is greater than ever, it is apparent that the upper echelons of these large corporations, broadcast and print, are being taken over by “suits” who consider it poor business to share stories of people enjoying the outdoors.
Meanwhile, we get 24/7 coverage of Lindsey Lohan’s stint in rehab.
At least both regular readers of outdoor news and views can still count on WildIndiana.com!
