Open letter to deer hunters from NRC

There has been much hullaballo about the proposed deer season rule changes that could come about in 2011.   In what could be the most sweeping change in deer hunting regulations in many years, the main gun and muzzleloader seasons could be reduced from 16 to 9 days while adding an additional antlerless gun season in October.   There is also a proposal to require that hunters in Urban Deer Zones harvest an antlerless deer prior to taking a buck.
This last rule would dramatically affect the staff of WildIndiana.com, though we were fortunate to do just that during the 2009 season.

The rule changes have now been proposed but the Natural Resources Commission is making sure that the voice of the various stakeholders are heard.  To that end our good friend Bryan Poynter, chairman of the Indiana Natural Resources Commission,  has published an open letter to deer hunters explaining the reasons behind the proposed changes and how hunters can let their voices be heard.

Make sure you take a few minutes to read the letter, research the topic and share your opinion.

  1. i like the idea of a 9 day gun season & 9 day muzz season i hunt northwest cass co the doe limit should be ”8” not 4 there are way too many deer maybe cass co can have a boundry of some kind – 8 does north of walton something like that it is like running a gauntlet when someone drives west on st rd 24 going to monticello it is down rite dangerous brenda the cass co officer can most likely agree w/me please take a hard look at this it may just save a few lives thanks for your time – randy roark
