Asian Carp in Lake Michigan?
Though everyone is upset, nobody is surprised.
On Tuesday, June 22, a biologist with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources captured a live bighead carp in Calumet Lake, a basin connected directly to Lake Michigan.
The biologists were searching the lake for the dreaded fish and unfortunately, found a live three-year-old male 20-pound fish in the lake. The most upsetting part of the catch is that it occurred above the electrified barriers on the Chicago Sanitary Canal that were designed to keep the infernal fish in the Mississippi River basin. Many experts fear the carp will invade the Great Lakes and destroy the multi-billion-dollar fishing industry.
At this point, we are willing to simply shake our heads in resignation as it seems entirely likely that doomsday scenario will eventually occur.
Our suggestion: hire a charter boat today to experience the world-class salmon and steelhead fishing on the lake. You might not have the opportunity in two or three years.
