Don’t shoot that Indiana sloth!!

While researching yet another wild rumor about some alleged fish & wildlife skulduggery in the statehouse, we ran across an interesting document that could significantly impact Hoosier hunters. After reading it, I know that I’m furious!!

If the law is passed, we will be unable to shoot kangaroos!

Moreover, we won’t be able to shoot tree sloths, jackels, baboons, hippos or even elephants.

I’m getting so tired of the government interfering in my right to hunt!

In fact, I was just talking to a buddy the other day about my upcoming hunt at the Tippecanoe County Anteater Refuge.  I’ve already purchased 10,000 fake ants and constructed a portable anthill blind.  Now, the whole adventure might be a bust!

Oh, wait.  Reading the fine print, it says that I’m allowed to hunt the critters if they have escaped from captivity.  Whoo-Boy!  I might still have a shot at an aardwolf (not that I even have the slightest idea what type of animal an  aardwolf is…sharp fangs with a really long snout, perhaps?).

Seriously, the Indiana Natural Resources Commission planned to recommend on January 12 certain changes to the law to prevent exotic game breeders from offering other species to hunt,  much like is done in Texas, Florida and several other states.

Of course, I’m not exactly  sure if you can buy hippopotamus-proof fencing down at the local agriculture cooperative.

You can read the draft document here.

The DNR website did not post the outcome of the hearing but we’ll try to keep all you avid giraffe and armadillo hunters out there informed.
