It was a given that when creating a personal outdoor blog free of the interference from editors and publishers, there would eventually be a non-outdoor issue that became so compelling that we would be forced to briefly ‘break character’ in order to share a comment.
Today, we have arrived at that historic juncture.
Late last night, while enjoying my “Friday night” with bit of leisure internet surfing (focusing on 1980’s southern rock) and adult beverages, I happened upon a link that mentioned a video of the song “YMCA” by The Village People.
Thinking, “Aw, that was kind of a fun song…regardless of any other issues we might encounter,” I clicked on the link. I’m not sure that I had ever seen this video, despite the fact I grew up right in the middle of the whole disco era, so I watched it.
Right now, let’s stop snickering because we’re supposed to be all grown up. In the 21st century we understand the concept of The Village People and the whole purpose behind the characters presented within the group. Furthermore, I’m certain that society has reached the point where we know a person’s choice of lifestyles doesn’t reflect on the content of their character. Whatever controversy there was on this matter is old news.
So, I’m watching the video and thinking, “Wow, that’s pretty campy and low-budget and the guys look a tad effeminate but it was a long time ago and the world was a more naive place and we thought this was just lighthearted music.”
And then…
WHAT IN THE HECK WERE THEY (and WE) THINKING????? If you watch the video, at 02:35 in the song, they are prancing in front of-
THE RAMROD CLUB.
I mean….THE RAMROD CLUB…..how did we miss that?????
Sorry, but I’ll now go back to hook and bullet stuff but Thank you for the indigence.
A historic day…
