There is some unwritten rule that all media organizations conduct a year-end countdown of their biggest stories. One school of thought holds that it is to help readers and viewers remember the past so that we aren’t destined to repeat it.
Another, and in my book more credible, school of thought holds that news organizations conduct such year-end exercises because half the staff is on vacation.
Regardless of the reason, we have gone back through our archives and pulled out several year-end “best-of” columns in order to countdown the birth of the new year. Most of them are quite entertaining, especially in light of the fact that all the misfortunes described are true.
The year in review (new column posted each day):
Dec 27: Year in Review 2004
Dec 28: Year in Review 2005
Dec 29: Year in Review 2006
Dec 30: Year in Review 2007
Dec 31: Year in Review 2008
Jan 1, 2010: Year in Review 2009
