New Mountain Bike Trail

biking iconIt was once the province crazed lone peddlers sneaking onto hiking trails but in the last five years has turned into a major phenomenon: Indiana is mountain bike crazy!

The newest place to ride in Central Indiana is the now-opened 1.2-mile Lenape Trail in Southwestway Park, 8500 Mann Road on the Indianapolis south side.  The Grand Opening of the trail was supposed to be today but was canceled in anticipation of the upcoming snow.

According to a press release from IndyParks- “The Hoosier Mountain Bike Association worked with Indy Parks planning staff to design the trail.  Thanks to them and the many volunteers who spent many hours to build the trail, the loop is now open for use during regular park hours from dawn to dusk.”

For those who weren’t aware, Indiana is actually becoming a destination of sorts for off-road bikers throughout the Midwest.  In fact, some of the Brown County bike trails have achieved national exposure in the last couple of years.  Not bad when you consider that only a few years ago in Indiana the term ‘single track’ was only used in relation to cassette-tape-recording.
