It’s skiing time
If you’re a downhill skiing enthusiast, dust off those boards because there’s snow on the Hoosier slopes.
Indiana is not typically considered a skiing destination but still offers two in-state resorts for those who don’t want to jet away to the classic mountain lodges of Colorado. Our local ski areas offer downhill trails ranging from novice to expert, snow boarding and even inner-tube runs.
Perfect North Slopes near Lawrenceburg is already open for business on Wednesday, December 9 with 17 of 23 trails open; the lodge reports approximately 12 inches of man-made snow on the slopes.
Paoli Peaks resort, near the town of the same name, is not scheduled to open until December 19- NOTE: LATEST NEWS INDICATES SLOPES WILL OPEN ON SAT DEC 12- but has also reported putting a significant amount of powder onto the hills.
Operating a ski area is tricky business in Indiana, subject to the whims of Mother Nature in spite of a battalion of snow-making machines. Therefore, Hoosier skiers should always call their destination or check the resorts website before leaving home. Visit Paolipeaks.com or Perfect North Slopes at perfectnorth.com
