While mulling over a topic for a column several years ago, I hit upon the idea of “Outdoor Phrases that Sound Dirty But Aren’t”. This turned out to be about 500 words short of making a column, but here’s the list anyway:
- stripping line
- digging the clam
- smokepole
- skinning the catfish
- pumping the stove
- cathole
- deflating the mattress
- cleaning the scallops
- stinkbait
- trapping the weasel
- breechplug grease
- shooting a opossum
- throwing the crankbait
- paddling the canoe
And, finally: A Pair of Big Honkers.
A good idea that died
