WildIndiana.com is partnering with the Indiana Walleye Anglers Association (IWAA) to sponsor their upcoming 2017 walleye tournament series.
The Indiana Walleye Anglers Association is a new club forming for interested walleye anglers who are seeking sanctioned walleye tournaments in central and southern Indiana. While there are a few walleye club tournaments in the southern two-thirds of the state, there are no nationally-sanction events. The IWAA is forming to fill that gap.
Operating a walleye club under the umbrella of a national sanctioning body is important for anglers who wish to qualify for the Cabela’s National Team Championship (NTC). The NTC is one of the premier walleye fishing events held in the U.S. and allows grass-roots anglers to share in national media attention and over $200,000 in cash and prizes. The NTC will be held this year June 8-10, 2017 in Lorain, Ohio.
WildIndiana pro-staffer and avid tournament angler Michael Parks is one of the organizers of the club. “There are a lot of guys in this part of the state who have to drive to Ohio or extreme northern Indiana just to fish in tournaments that might qualify them nationally. With the IWAA, we’ll be having tournaments in this area so guys can spend more time fishing rather than driving,” he said.
The club is accepting memberships at this time. Annual dues are $65.00 with $25 going to Indiana Walleye Anglers Association and $40 going to The Walleye Federation. Prospective members who have already paid for Walleye Federation dues through another club will only be charged $25 for the IWAA membership. Tournament fees are estimated to be around $80 per boat.
The first membership meeting of the Indiana Walleye Anglers Association will be held at the Ford Indianapolis Boat, Sport and Travel Show in Indianapolis in February to elect officers, finalize association rules, ratify tournament regulations and finalize the 2017 tournament schedule.
